Outer Coast students across multiple programs have partnered with local Sitkan and cemetery restoration expert Bob Sam to unearth and restore headstones in the Alaska Native Brotherhood Cemetery.

2021-22 Year student Luc Diaz spent his Fall Semester service righting headstones at the ANB cemetery

“Service made me feel very connected to the Sitka community. I hadn’t done much service in general before, and it made me really appreciate and respect people who do. When I came back to Juneau, I felt a drive to put myself into community service situations that I felt strongly about. For example, in Sitka, I helped with cemetery restoration with Bob Sam. Then he came to Juneau, and I started helping with cemetery restoration in Juneau too.”
