Throughout her Fall Semester at Outer Coast, Jing (Wrangell, AK) served as a member of the Applications Committee.
The Applications Committee, or AppComm, is a joint student-staff body that recruits, interviews, and admits new classes of Outer Coast students. After several months as a committee member, Jing became AppComm Chair for the 2020-2021 Outer Coast Year Spring Semester.
As Chair, Jing led the effort to recruit and admit students to 2021-2022 Outer Coast programs. For example, she hosted the AppComm Soirée alongside fellow student AppComm members in order to share data about Outer Coast’s applicant demographics with the larger community, as well as inspire participation in recruitment efforts across the Student Body.
Jing, alongside others in the community, also gave informational presentations to students at schools across Alaska. And she facilitated a recruitment worksession that inspired a 100% participation rate among the 17-member Student Body — making time for students to share application information with peers, old teachers, and social media networks — and co-created informational pamphlets for prospective students.
